We’re excited to share some great news: the North York Colorectal group has launched a robotic surgery program.

This new technology gives our surgical team an additional tool to care for patients with colon, rectal, and gastric cancers. It reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing safe, effective, and innovative care to our community, close to home.

What is robotic surgery?
is a minimally invasive approach where the surgeon uses a specialized system to perform an operation through small incisions. The surgeon is always in control, guiding the instruments from a console that provides a clear, detailed view of the surgical area. The “robot” does not act on its own—it simply translates the surgeon’s hand movements into precise actions.

How does the robot help patients through surgery?
For patients, robotic surgery can offer several benefits. Smaller incisions may lead to less pain after surgery, lower risk of complications, and a faster recovery. The enhanced precision can also be especially helpful in delicate areas, allowing surgeons to operate with greater control.

Not every patient will need or benefit from robotic surgery, but it gives us another option to tailor care to each individual.

We’re proud to bring this program to North York and look forward to caring for our patients with this new approach.
